Scheduling
Coordinating a meeting, a kickoff call, or a delivery slot across several people's calendars is a small task that eats a disproportionate amount of back-and-forth. Automated scheduling removes the back-and-forth by checking availability and confirming a slot directly, surfacing a person only when there's a genuine conflict to resolve.
Monitoring
Some of the most valuable automation doesn't act at all — it watches. A monitoring workflow checks a condition (a service is down, a metric has crossed a threshold, a deadline is approaching) on a schedule or in real time, and alerts a person the moment it matters, rather than requiring someone to remember to check.
AI agents
The newest capability family: an AI agent carries out a multi-step task — researching an answer, drafting a document, working through a checklist — inside a defined mandate, rather than executing one fixed step. The distinction from a simple automation is scope: an agent can decide the order of its own sub-steps to reach a goal; it still operates inside boundaries a person set, and still hands off anything outside them.
